Bougainvillea glabra is a spectacular and colourful, fast growing climber. This specimen produces multi-coloured flowers in clusters surrounded by colourful, papery bracts. The colouring can be magenta, purple, red, orange, pink, yellow, white but is most commonly dark pink. In cooler climates it will flower through summer only and become deciduous in winter. In warmer climates it may flower throughout the year and will remain evergreen. It typically grows to 10 m tall and 4 m wide but is usually trimmed to control growth. Best performance is achieved when grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of cool climates, frost, and dry periods. This vigorous climber is well suited to growing on a pergola, allowing to spill over a wall, or training along a fence. It is an excellent choice as a ground cover for a large area or as a large screening plant.
