Commonly known as the Norway Spruce, this conifer is commonly used through Europe as a Christmas tree. This evergreen has dense, dark green foliage which is quite aromatic when crushed. It is held on short branches that radiate from a central trunk. It grows with a conical shape to eventually reach 30 m tall and 8 m wide. Best results with this tree are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of dry conditions, cold climates, frost, moderate wind, and coastal environments. The Norway Spruce is commonly used for shelter, grown as a specimen, planted for timber production, or included in a mixed planting in a large garden.
