Phormium ‘Chocolate Chip’ is a popular, smaller variety of Flax. It produces sword-like leaves that are coloured milk-chocolate, and typically grows to 75 cm tall and the same wide with a tidy and compact habit. It performs best and produces the most intense leaf colourings when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate frost, coastal conditions, wind, poor soils, and cool climates. This versatile plant makes a fantastic addition to mixed plantings, border plantings, and coastal gardens. Phormium ‘Chocolate Chip’ is commonly planted around pool and barbecue areas, and provides an impressive display when mass planted on a bank.
