“Monovale” is a popular variety of Almond due to its high yields of small nuts with a strong flavour in autumn. It is self-pollinating so does not need another variety planted alongside or near to bear fruit. The white flowers are produced in spring just before the foliage emerges. They give way to green leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. This tree typically grows with a vase shape to about 4 m tall and 3 m wide and performs best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost. “Monovale” is commonly grown for nut production but also suits being included in a mixed planting in a larger garden.
