“Splendour” is a variety of apple that bears large sized fruit in autumn. The fruit are red with flesh that is crisp, juicy, and very flavoursome. It is a lovely apple for eating fresh. The M9 rootstock keeps this deciduous tree to about 3 m tall and 2.5 m wide, though it can be trimmed as necessary. It is self-pollinating and so does not require another apple variety planted close by to produce fruit. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, though a late frost in spring can reduce yields. It is not suited to sub-tropical climates. “Splendour” on this rootstock is commonly planted for fruit production, included in a mixed planting, or maintained in a courtyard garden.
