“Thornless Jewel” is a hybrid variety of Blackberry that produces delicious, large berries which are a deep black-maroon colour when ripe in summer. The plant itself comprises creeping stems which grow to about 1.5 m tall. If these are not pruned back the plant will easily spread to 2 m wide. To control growth, the stems should be pruned back after fruiting. The thornless stems host mid-green foliage with flowers borne in clusters during spring. This variety produces the best yields when grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site where it can climb a trellis. It is generally tolerant of frost and short periods of dry. “Thornless Jewel” is commonly grown for fruit production against a wall or on a trellis.
