“Reddy Robin” is a popular variety of Nashi Pear that produces high quality fruit in early autumn. The medium sized fruit are red and gold, and have cream-white flesh that is crisp and juicy. They result from white blossoms in spring which literally coat the tree. While this variety will produce fruit without having another variety to assist with pollination, we do recommend planting the variety “Nijiseiki” alongside to ensure good fruiting. The foliage is mid-green, lush, and develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. The tree itself grows with a vase shape to about 4 m tall and 3 m wide, though can be pruned as necessary. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates, though late frosts in spring will reduce yields. “Reddy Robin” is commonly planted for fruit production but also makes for a lovely specimen.
