“Conference” is a popular variety of pear due to its delicious fruit which have a yellow skin with a pink blush. These ripen in autumn and are held amidst the fresh, green foliage which develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. This variety does not require another variety planted nearby to aid pollination so will produce good yields when planted by itself. It typically grows to 4 m tall and 3.5 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best yields are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, with good soil moisture during dry periods. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though a late frost in spring may reduce the yield. “Conference” is commonly grown for fruit production, included into a mixed planting, or grown as a specimen. NB: This variety is not recommended for tropical or subtropical climates.
