It features small, dark green leaves which are held densely on stems that creep along the ground and take root as they grow. Single, pure white flowers adorn the plant in spring. It typically grows to 10 cm tall and will expand to cover 1 m but can be contained with trimming. This plant grows in almost any soil condition except at the extremes of wet and dry and thrives in shaded conditions. It is tolerant of frost, wind, and extended dry periods once established. “Gertrude Jekyll” is commonly used where a hardy groundcover is required. It can be mown to “freshen it up” and will regrow again without issue. It is also often grown in a container or hanging basket and allowed to cascade over the edges.
