Dietes ‘Lemon Drops’, commonly known as the Fortnight Lily or simply as an Iris, is an eye-catching and stunning variety. It produces white flowers that have three distinct, yellow spots. These are produced on slender stems through spring and summer amidst the foliage. The foliage comprises narrow and sword-like, dark green leaves which are held densely and complement the flowers nicely. This Iris is herbaceous perennial that typically grows to 70 cm tall and 40 cm wide, and performs best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of wind, frost, cool climates, and dry periods, with storage roots enabling it to regrow and expand each year if it dies back during winter. Dietes ‘Lemon Drops’ is commonly used in cottage gardens, public gardens, mixed plantings, borders, or mass planted on a bank. The Fortnight Lily is a great plant for using in NZ gardens anywhere a tough, yet attractive specimen is required.
