“Dark” is a variety of Helleborus that features amazingly coloured, dark flowers. The showy flowers are black-purple and produced through winter and spring. These are held on upright stems above the lush, dark green foliage. This herbaceous perennial grows as a clump to about 35 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site protected from heavy frost. It is tolerant of short periods of dry and moderate frost. “Dark” is a great plant for cottage and tropical gardens, for adding to a mixed or border planting, or for planting for winter colour. A mass planting produces the best displays with this plant.
