Commonly known as String of Pearls, this is a succulent grown for its interesting, bead like foliage. It produces masses of dark green, ball-like leaves which are held off trailing stems. The stems can reach 70 cm in length. Small, white flowers are borne during summer and are mildly fragrant. It grows best when positioned in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained soil. It is tolerant of dry periods but must be protected from frost. String of Pearls is commonly grown indoors as a potted plant or grown outdoors in sub-tropical climates and allowed to trail over a wall or container.
