Cymbopogon citratus, commonly known as the Lemon Grass Plant or simply Lemongrass, is a plant grown for both its aesthetics and culinary uses. This evergreen grows as a clump and produces flavoursome and aromatic, green-blue leaves that are held with a graceful arch. The foliage is adorned with green and pink flowers as loose sprays in summer. The Lemon Grass plant typically grows to 70 cm tall and 60 cm wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of short periods of dry and light frost only. Lemongrass is commonly included in herb and cottage gardens, maintained in a container, planted as a border, or included in a mixed planting. The shoots are reported to have insect repellent properties and health benefits. Landscape designers will often include Cymbopogon citratus in a garden design for its fragrant appeal, unusualness, and versatility.
