Liriope 'Royal Purple' Details

Liriope muscari ‘Royal Purple’, commonly known as Purple Liriope or Lilyturf, is grown for its lovely flowers and tidy foliage. Flower spikes rise above the strap-like, dark green leaves to bear masses of showy, deep violet-purple flowers. The long-lasting flowers are borne through summer and autumn, blending wonderfully with the foliage. This Lilyturf is an herbaceous perennial and grows as a tidy clump to about 40 cm tall and 45 cm wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of cool climates, moderate frost, dry periods, and coastal environments. It may die back during winter in colder regions to regrow in spring when conditions warm, but otherwise remains evergreen. Liriope ‘Royal Purple’ is an excellent choice for cottage gardens, adding to a mixed planting, including in borders, or for planting around outdoor living areas. This plant is used extensively in landscaping projects because of the hardiness, versatility, and great appearance year-round.
