Commonly known as The Red Kakabeak, this NZ native shrub produces a flush of stunning, beak like flowers in summer. The showy, red flowers are produced in abundance and literally transform the plant and are great for attracting birds. The mid-green foliage is soft in appearance and complements the flowers nicely. It typically grows to 3 m tall and 2 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of moderate frost and dry periods. This Kakabeak is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, grown to soften a bland wall, planted around outdoor living areas, maintained in a container, or planted en masse for an impressive display. It is a low maintenance and forgiving plant that is easy to grow and very rewarding.
