Coprosma rhamnoides, commonly known as Twiggy Coprosma, is a native shrub found in scrub and forests throughout New Zealand. It grows densely and often has a ‘twiggy’ appearance. The stems host small green leaves that will often take on yellow tones when grow in full sun or when it is water stressed. Red berries are produced during summer which are great for attracting birds. Twiggy Coprosma typically grows to 3 m tall and 1 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. This evergreen is tolerant of extended dry periods, frost, shade, wind, poor soils, and coastal conditions. Coprosma rhamnoides is commonly included in coastal plantings, planted around the base of larger specimen trees, used in riparian and revegetation plantings, or included in woodland gardens.
