Commonly known as The Siberian Dogwood, this deciduous shrub is renowned for its red stems which are most prominent during winter. It forms a thicket of the slender, brightly coloured stems. The foliage emerges lime green in spring, ages to dark green, then develops red tones in autumn before falling and revealing the colourful stems. Cream-white flowers appear from spring through summer and result in small, blue-white berries in autumn. It typically grows to 2.5 m tall and 1 m wide and should be trimmed each year to encourage the more colourful, younger stems. Best performance with this shrub is achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates. “Sibirica” is a great plant for mixed plantings as well as cluster planting to provide a dramatic winter display.
