Fatsia japonica is an evergreen shrub grown for its lush foliage. The leaves are large, bright green, and provide a sense of freshness to the garden. Small, white flowers are produced in summer and are followed by small black fruits which both add extra interest to this plant. It typically grows to 2.5 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site, and it will require frost protection in cooler climates. Fatsia japonica is commonly included in tropical gardens, added to a mixed planting, planted around pool and barbecue areas, maintained in a container, or used to contrast with other leaf types. The beauty of this plant provides year-round pleasure.
