“Jewel Of The Nile” is a variety of Hebe grown for its lovely flowers and foliage. The showy flower clusters from summer through autumn are purple, and are held above the colourful foliage. New foliage emerges with purple tones on leave that are variegated cream and green. During winter the colouring intensifies with the yellowing becoming more prominent. It grows as a bushy, evergreen shrub to about 80 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when grown in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, coastal conditions, and dry periods. “Jewel Of The Nile” is commonly included in a mixed planting, used in borders, grown in a container, planted around outdoor living areas, or mass planted on a bank or the like for a very effective display.
