“Waireka” is a variety of Hebe that features outstanding foliage and lovely flowers. The lush and glossy foliage is variegated with a dark green centre and a cream edge. From spring through autumn it produces tall and showy spikes of purple flowers. The combination of flowers and foliage is very aesthetic. This evergreen grows compactly to about 1 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, coastal conditions, dry periods, and some wind. “Waireka” is commonly added to a mixed planting, used in borders, planted around outdoor living areas, used in cottage gardens, or mass planted on a bank.
