Hibiscus rosa sinensis ‘Hiawatha’ is a variety of Hibiscus grown for its large and showy flowers. The stunning, dark red flowers have a ruffled appearance and are borne constantly through summer and autumn off upright, slender stems. The stems also host glossy, dark-green leaves which contrast with the flowers beautifully. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site. It is tolerant of short periods of dry as well as moderate frost. In cool climates it may become deciduous or partially deciduous during winter. Hibiscus ‘Hiawatha’ is commonly grown as a showy specimen, used as an informal hedge, planted for screening, included in a mixed planting, added to a tropical garden, or planted around outdoor living areas.
