Lonicera ‘Honey Hedge Ruby’ is a hardy, evergreen shrub often used instead of a Buxus hedge. It carries dense, upright branches and small, glossy, dark green leaves. The new foliage is tinged with purple and red. Small, cream flowers in spring are followed by blue-black berries in summer. It typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best growth is achieved when it is planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cold climates, coastal conditions, and dry periods. Lonicera ‘Honey Hedge Ruby’ is often used for hedging and topiary, included in a mixed planting, or used to brighten up an area. This plant makes for a fabulous addition to NZ gardens.
