“Red Hot” is a bright and vibrant, NZ native shrub. New foliage emerges red and light yellows, and ages to become a fresh green colour during winter. In summer, the red tones become more pronounced again. The leaf colouring is truly impressive and is accentuated with small, yellow-green flowers in spring which result in small, dark berries. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site. It will tolerate coastal conditions, shaded positions, dry periods and frost once established. “Red Hot” is a great plant for brightening up bland areas and is often planted around living areas, included in mixed and native plantings, or simply maintained in a container.
