“Blaze of Glory” is a variety of Tibouchina grown for both its foliage and beautiful flowers. It grows as an evergreen shrub and carries soft looking foliage which is variegated cream and green. The deep purple flowers are produced in abundance generally twice per year (spring and autumn) with sporadic flowering through the other seasons. It grows compactly to about 1.5 m tall and the same wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is grown on a well-drained site in full sun or partial shade. It is tolerant of dry periods and mild frost though protection while it is establishing is highly recommended. “Blaze of Glory” is commonly included in a mixed planting, maintained in a container, planted around outdoor living areas, included in cottage gardens, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants.
