“Crimson King” is a variety of Japanese Maple that features colourful foliage and a tidy form. The foliage emerges purple-red in spring, remains this colour through summer, then turn lovely shades of red and yellow in autumn before falling. Clusters of small, orange-yellow flowers are borne on drooping stems in summer and add extra interest to the tree. It grows with an upright and spreading habit to eventually reach 10 m tall and 7 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, periods of dry, and will grow on a range of soil types, barring the extremes of wet and dry. “Crimson King” is makes for a fantastic specimen and is perfect for using in avenue plantings, adding to a mixed planting in a large garden, or planting to provide shade. This tree will not disappoint wherever it is used.
