This Japanese Maple is grown for its rich display of delicate foliage that changes colour with the seasons. Leaves on this small, deciduous tree emerge light green in spring, age to mid-green through summer, then turn a lovely purple-red in autumn before falling. It grows with an upright habit, producing a broad crown about 5 m tall and 3 m wide when mature. This tree grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frosts, cool climates, some wind, and will grow on a range of soil types, but will struggle at the extremes of wet and dry. This is a magnificent specimen requiring little maintenance and is ideal for parks, home gardens, or growing anywhere as a specimen. It makes for a lovely shade tree and group plantings give a dazzling display, particularly in autumn.
