“Briotii” is a variety of the commonly known, Red Horse Chestnut, and is grown for its colourful flowers and great form. It bears masses of showy, red-pink flowers in summer which are followed by prickly seed capsules containing nuts. NB: the nuts are poisonous. The foliage comprises large and lush, dark green leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. This deciduous tree grows with a rounded habit to about 15 m tall and 8 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site. It is tolerant of cool climates, frost, and periods of dry. The Red Horse Chestnut makes a great addition to parks and large gardens where it serves as both a specimen and shade tree.
