“Rosea” is a variety of the commonly known, Silk Tree, and is grown for its soft, fern like foliage and clusters of long lasting, fluffy, rose-red flowers. Flowering begins in summer and extends until autumn, literally transforming the tree during this time. The foliage is mid-green and the sensitive leaflets close up when touched and at night. As autumn progresses the leaves develop colourful, yellow tones before falling. This tree grows with a vase shaped habit and produces a flattened, spreading crown. It typically reaches 6 m tall and 4 m wide and performs best when grown on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site in full sun. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates. “Rosea” is commonly used as a specimen in medium to large sized gardens, as a back drop for smaller plants, in avenue plantings, or to provide shade around the barbecue and other living areas.
