Azara microphylla is an evergreen tree grown for its form, foliage, and flowers. It features gently arching branches that host small and glossy, dark green leaves. The tree becomes adorned with clusters of gold coloured flowers in spring which produce a pleasant vanilla scent and result in grey berries in late summer. It is relatively slow growing and eventually reaches 10 m tall and 4 m wide. Best results with this tree are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate dry periods and moderate frost once established. This tree is commonly grown as a specimen, included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, or planted to border an entrance.
