“Oklahoma” is a small tree grown for its impressive foliage and flowers. In spring, before the foliage emerges clusters of purple blossoms literally coat the tree. The foliage comprises heart shaped leaves which are mid-green in colour and develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows as a multi-trunked tree with a broad and rounded canopy to about 4.5 m tall and 6 m wide. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, reasonably sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and short periods of dry. “Oklahoma” is commonly grown as a specimen, used in avenues, planted to border an entrance, or included in a mixed planting.
