“Cherokee Princess” is grown for its lovely flowering, attractive form, and colourful foliage. Leaves emerge light green in spring, age to become darker green, then develop impressive red tones in autumn before falling. The foliage is complemented with masses of showy, white flowers in spring which literally coat the tree just as the foliage is borne. It grows with a broad and pyramidal shape to about 4 m tall and the same wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this small tree are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and short periods of dry. This tree makes an excellent specimen and is great for including in a mixed planting, growing as a specimen, using in an avenue planting, or planting to border an entrance. With some trimming it is also well suited to planting around an outdoor living area.
