“Sunburst” is an impressive, deciduous tree grown for its lovely form and colourful foliage. It carries fine and lush, yellow foliage through spring which ages to a bright green in summer, then turns bright yellow in autumn before falling. The changing foliage colour provides for great interest, as do the large, black seedpods that hang from the branches in winter. It grows as an upright spreading tree with a single trunk to about 15 m tall and 6 m wide though it can be trimmed as necessary. This is a hardy tree that grows best in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate frosts, cool climates, and coastal conditions but does require a degree of wind protection to avoid broken branches. “Sunburst” makes for a lovely specimen and is ideal for adding to a mixed planting, for avenue planting, or using to border an entranceway.
