“Ferruginea” is a popular variety of Magnolia due to its stunning flowers. Flower buds open through late spring and summer to reveal large and showy, fragrant, cream-white flowers. The blooms are borne amidst the dark green, glossy foliage and together provide an outstanding display. This evergreen grows compactly with a pyramidal shape to about 20 m tall and 10 m, though it can be contained with trimming. It grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, and is tolerant of frost and cool climates. “Ferruginea” is commonly grown as a specimen, added to a mixed planting in a large garden, or used in an avenue planting.
