“Gold Star” is an outstanding variety of Magnolia due to its spectacular flowering and tidy growth habit. It bears masses of fragrant, cream-yellow flowers in spring. The showy flowers are borne on the naked stems before the foliage emerges, providing for both a dramatic and colourful display. The lush foliage emerges with red and bronze tones in spring, ages to become a darker green, then develops yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows with a pyramidal shape to about 5 m tall and the same wide, and can be trimmed and shaped as necessary. This tree grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and short periods of dry. “Gold Star” makes for a fantastic specimen and is commonly included in mixed plantings in larger gardens. The beauty of this tree will please no matter where it is used.
