Magnolia ‘Teddy Bear’ is an evergreen variety of Magnolia and is grown for its spectacular flowering, glossy foliage, and tidy form. It produces large and showy, fragrant, white flowers through summer. These are borne amidst the lush, dark green foliage which affords a lovely contrast of colours. It grows densely with a conical shape to about 6 m tall and 3 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. This variety grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site, and is tolerant of moderate frost. Magnolia ‘Teddy Bear’ makes for a fantastic specimen tree, and is commonly included in a mixed planting, used to border an entrance, planted to soften a bland wall, or planted as a cluster. The beauty of this tree in a NZ garden will impress no matter how it is used.
