Commonly known as the Golden Crabapple, this is a small, deciduous tree grown for its prolific flowering and colourful fruits. It bears masses of single, pink flowers through spring which gradually age to white. These result in large, bright yellow fruit in autumn which are great for making Crabapple Jelly and attract all manner of wildlife. The foliage emerges a fresh green colour in spring, ages to become darker during summer, then develops colourful yellow and orange tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained, sheltered site that does not dry out. It is tolerant of frost and cool climates. “Arrow Gold” is commonly grown as a specimen, added to a mixed planting, grown specifically for the fruit, or included anywhere this colourful tree can be appreciated.
