“Pearlie Emma” is variety of Crabapple grown for its colourful fruits and flowers. Rose coloured flower buds open into showy, pink and white blossoms in spring just as the foliage emerges. The flowers result in large crops of small, cherry-like, yellow fruit which are loved by birds. The glossy leaves emerge green, age to a darker green, then develop yellow and orange tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 4 m tall and 3 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a fertile, well-drained site, protected from wind. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though late frosts in spring can reduce yields. “Pearlie Emma” is commonly grown as a specimen, included in a cottage garden, or used for avenue planting. This is a showy plant that will impress.
