“Red Jade” is a variety of Crabapple grown for its colourful fruits and weeping growth habit. Rose coloured flower buds open into showy, white-pink blossoms in spring just as the foliage emerges. The fragrant flowers result in large crops of small, red fruit which is often made into Crabapple jelly and loved by birds. The glossy green leaves develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows with a pendulous and cascading nature to about 2.5 m tall and the same wide. Best performance with this tree is achieved when grown in full sun on a fertile, well-drained site, protected from wind. It is tolerant of cool climates and frost, though late frosts in spring can reduce yields. “Red Jade” is commonly grown as a specimen, maintained in a courtyard garden, included in a cottage garden, or used in avenue plantings. This is a popular and showy plant that will impress.
