Commonly known as Persian Ironwood, this is a small tree grown for its amazing autumn colours. The foliage emerges light green in spring, darkens during summer, then turns a myriad of brilliant orange and purple colours in autumn before falling. It grows as a broadly spreading tree to about 8 m tall and 6 m wide, growing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and some wind. Persian Ironwood is often grown in medium to large gardens either as a specimen or included in a mixed planting. It is also well suited to avenue planting.
