“Fitzherbert” is a variety of the commonly known, Oriental Plane Tree, and is grown for its colourful foliage and tidy growth habit. The lush foliage emerges deep green in spring, remains this colour through summer, then develops colourful red, orange, and yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows with a broad crown to about 12 m tall and 8 m wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. It grows best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site, and is tolerant of frost, cool climates, urban pollution, and moderate wind. “Fitzherbert” makes a fantastic shade tree and is commonly grown as a specimen in large gardens or parks, or used in an avenue planting.
