Prunus mume is a variety of Japanese Apricot and features masses of pretty and fragrant flowers. The cream-white blooms are borne in clusters through spring, just as the foliage begins to emerge. This deciduous tree grows with a vase shaped habit bearing green foliage which develops yellow and orange tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 4 m tall and 3 m wide, performing best when planted in a full sun position on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and periods of dry. This Prunus is a stunning tree when in flower and makes a fine addition to any garden. It is commonly used in avenue plantings, grown as a specimen, or included in a mixed planting.
