“Candelabra” is a variety of Ornamental Pear grown for its flowering, tidy form, and fantastic autumn colours. The leaves emerge mid-green in spring, darken through summer, then turn brilliant shades of red and orange through autumn before falling. Masses of single, white flowers are borne in spring just as the leaves emerge. It grows initially with a pyramidal habit but later develops a broad crown as it reaches 6 m tall and 3 m wide. Best results with this tree are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, wind, dry periods, and heavy soils. “Candelabra” is commonly used for street or avenue planting, grown as specimen, or added to a mixed planting in a larger garden.
