Commonly known as the English Oak, this deciduous tree features lush foliage and great form. The foliage emerges light green in spring, ages to dark green, then lightens only slightly in autumn before turning brown and falling. Small, yellow-green flowers in spring produce brown acorns in autumn. This majestic beauty typically grows to 25 m tall and 15 m wide with a conical growth habit and tends to broaden out with age. It performs best when planted on a well-drained site in full sun, and is tolerant of frost, cool climates, heavy soils, and some wind. The English Oak is commonly grown as a specimen in large gardens and parks with the added advantage of fantastic summer shade.
