Commonly known as Devon Whitebeam, this is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree. It features leaves that are glossy and dark green on the upside and white beneath. They are held densely off rigid stems and develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. The tree is adorned with small, white flowers in spring which result in red-orange berries in the autumn. Both the flowers and fruit are great for attracting birds. It typically grows to 10 m tall and 6 m wide with a broad and open habit, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and periods of dry once it is established. Devon Whitebeam is commonly grown as a specimen, included in a mixed planting in a large garden, planted to provide screening, or included to attract wildlife.
