“Frontier” is a variety of Elm grown for its broad canopy and colourful foliage. The leaves emerge a mid-green colour in spring, age to dark green, then develop burgundy red tones in autumn before falling. It grows with a rounded head to about 12 m tall and 8 m wide though can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this tree are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site with some shelter. It its tolerant of frost, cool climates, coastal conditions, poor soils, and dry periods. “Frontier” is commonly grown as a specimen and is perfect for avenue planting.
