Blechnum discolor, commonly known as Crown Fern or Piupiu, is a NZ native fern that produces a distinctive crown of radiating fronds. The showy fronds emerge pale green and darken as they mature. Blechnum discolor thrives in shaded, sheltered environments that are constantly damp but also free draining. It makes for an attractive groundcover beneath trees and is a fantastic addition to woodland and native plantings.
