Fagus sylvatica, commonly known as the Common Beech or European Beech, is a large, deciduous tree that grows with a broad, spreading crown. The leaves emerge yellow-green in spring, age to become glossy and dark green, then turn a russet-brown colour in autumn as they die off. Left untrimmed, this European Beech will grow to about 30 m tall and 15 m wide. Fagus sylvatica makes for a fantastic shade tree and mature specimens make a dramatic statement in the landscape when given plenty of room. It is also commonly used for avenue planting, trimmed into a hedge, used for screening, or added to a mixed planting in a large garden.

Koelreuteria paniculata, commonly known as the Golden Rain tree, this is a stunning, small tree. It features clusters of bright yellow flowers on long stems through summer. The ground beneath the tree resembles a golden carpet as the blossoms fall. The foliage comprises feathery leaves which emerge pink-bronze in spring then age to bright green in summer before turning yellow in autumn and falling as it grows to about 10 m tall and 5 m wide. Koelreuteria paniculata makes for a wonderful shade tree, and is commonly used in avenue or street plantings, grown as a specimen, or maintained in a courtyard garden.
