It features dense, dark green foliage held on short stems and grows with an upright habit. Left untrimmed it will reach 30 m tall and 8 m wide but it is often trimmed to much smaller sizes. Cryptomeria japonica Egmont is commonly planted for shelter and screening where a hardy evergreen is required. Plants should be spaced 1.5 m apart in these situations.
