Leptospermum scoparium, commonly known as Manuka or Tea Tree, is a fast growing, NZ native shrub that produces masses of white flowers in spring and summer. The foliage consists of small, dark green leaves which give off a pleasant fragrance, particularly on warm days. This evergreen typically grows to 3 m tall and 2 m, performing best when plant in full sun on a well-drained site. Manuka is commonly used as a nurse plant for other natives in a revegetation or riparian planting. In the home garden it provides excellent shelter and the fine foliage and floriferous nature makes it a lovely addition to a mixed planting.
