The foliage comprises small, green leaves which give off a pleasant fragrance on warm days or when crushed. It typically grows to 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. Leptospermum Wiri Joan is commonly included in a mixed planting, trimmed into a hedge, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, planted against a light-coloured wall, or gown as a small specimen.
